Thyais Maxwell, Principal, Johnette Walser, Social worker, Laura Tew,
Master Gardener Mentor, Skip Crow, Cottage Grove Initiative, and Cynthia
Nielsen, School Garden Network have been planning the creation of Hampton’s
school garden for the past 6 months. Habitat for Humanity had generously agreed
to fund the garden construction. The day finally came this last Saturday! Here
is Johnette Walser posing at the “before” site where the garden was planned to
be created.
Mrs. Klawitter Media Specialist and teachers Mrs.
Summerrell, Ms. Youngblood, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Williams, and Mrs.
Alexander and 16 students were all present and played important parts in the
garden build.
Community support was great with many
neighborhood Church partners getting involved. We had volunteers from Good News
Baptist Church, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and Living Hope Missionary
Baptist Church.
A dedication day celebration is being
planned for later in the spring to include Habitat for Humanity and other key supporters.
Go Eagles!
